Hey Guys! I would like to ask in here if i could OC my FX-6300 to 4.2/.4 Ghz using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO coz im planning to as i feel like my CPU is holding me back as people who have the same GPU i have are getting better FPS in games than me. I heard the CPU can be bottlenecking so im planning to get a good OC.

PC Specs-
Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 AM3+
AMD FX-6300 Processor Clocked at 3.5 Ghz.
8 GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM Clocked at 1600 Mhz.
Asus GTX 760 DCOC2
HDD's are-
Seagate 2 TB
2x WD Black 320 GB

Thank you for the Help! :D

Solution
Go ahead and buy a EVO and see how you do.
The cooler is cheap and if nothing else, it will run quieter than the stock cooler.
How high you can oc will be determined by how lucky you were in getting a golden chip.

But... ultimately, the FX cpu's are not great for games that depend on few fast cores.
Be happy with what you have, or plan in a intel cpu upgrade.

I had a 6300 or 6350 @ 5Ghz with a 212 Evo in push/pull. It wasn't a 24/7 clock but it was 100% stable for benchmarks. I would say the chip and cooler are likely capable of 4.4 - 4.7 Ghz, the motherboard may not be.
