So here's the situation-

I have an Asus p8z77-v lx motherboard
a gigabyte 7950 3gb graphics card
an i5 3570k processor.

When booting windows for the first time everything ran smoothly, and as expected my graphics card was not recognised, I installed the drivers to recognise it which went well, and then like requested restarted my computer.

Upon reaching the desktop my computer crashed, and needed to be reset, after about 8 hours of troubleshooting (i'm not the most technically gifted bloke) I stumped across this

This guy apparently has the same problem , and it lies in the fact that this motherboard boots both the integrated graphics and GPU graphics leading them to crash. On MOST motherboards if something is in the PCI slot it automatically becomes the primary booting graphics, not this one. This would be an easy fix if (like on most mobos) you could directly change which graphics were primary, the asus bios was difficult to grasp but apparently it CAN be done, and I finally found out how, HOWEVER upon selecting the option to "boot from PCI", i hit f10, save changes and restart, go into the bios to see if my changes stand and they don't, It's like the bios is NOT SAVING MY CHANGES, or am i doing something wrong here? Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can fix this problem? Either a way to make the asus bios recognise my request to boot soley from PCI, or a way to disbable the 3570k's integrated graphics? Please tell me somebody can help me! I started building this computer 2 days ago and I've still had absolutely nothing in the way of success with it!

If you're struggling to understand the problem, the link I've posted probably has a more clear explanation. Many thanks!

1) Check the manual page 2-15, for how to clear RTC RAM, I recommend to try to remove the onboard battery and the jumper.

2) Then boot the PC, go to the BIOS, go to the "system agent config" section, under the " graphics config." section, you can disable the iGPU too, and set the primary display to either pcie or pci. Check the manual page 3-19 and 3-20.

I recommend you do the 1st step, because it will set the default setting for the PC. After that you may disable the iGPU, save, and exit the BIOS.
