PC shut off unexpectedly and now it won't turn on. Disconnected everything except 1 stick of RAM, CPU, and heatsink. When I turn on the power I get a single click from the PSU (sound isn't from the fan) then when I hold my ear to it I can hear energy (sound of electricity).

What confuses me is when I enable the external power switch (switch that allows power to go to the PSU) my external devices that are charged via usb come on. Also the mobo indication LEDs light up.

I should also mention it's a 4 year old 1000w power supply, model number AXP1000R14HE.

The PSU has died. There are separate sections in the PSU that supply various requirements on the MB and the rest on the system devices. One of these has failed. Time to replace. You may not need another 1000w unit. If you list all your hardware and price range you can get suggestions. Bigger is not better.

Thanks for the response. I tried other troubleshooting guides (drain the psu) and nothing worked. Going to replace and using the calculator I need at least 1000w. Time to start slowly upgrading my rig.

Thanks again!
