Hi guys, my computer won't boot up past the welcome screen any longer.

Here is what happened then the symptoms as best as I can describe them:

I was watching Orange is the New Black and my screen went black with small vertical lines with an obnoxious noise playing through my headphones. I hard shut off the computer. When I restarted the computer I could get to the welcome screen normally but after logging in with my information the screen would go completely black (no cursor) and stay that way.

Next I tried starting it in safe mode, I was able to do that successfully. Instead of keeping the computer on in safe mode I instead wanted to try to boot into Ubuntu, which I have on USB, thinking that this was an error with Windows. I have Ubuntu on USB because I had a hell of a lot of boot problems about two years ago and used linux to solve problems with my HDD and Windows. Anyway, it gave me the purple screen that feels similar to the Windows starting screen, then would load would appears to be a large script of numbers then the screen would go black until it would finally go back to the purple screen. It does this process repeatedly.

So then I tried logging back into Windows safe mode but now I was getting a black screen similar to when I was trying to log in normally after the original crash (no cursor). I went to BIOS and the BIOS had, what i could best describe as, horizontal lines of reddish purple dots.

It was late at night so I decided to go to sleep on it. The next day I tried booting it normally and in safe mode and I no longer get a welcome screen, instead I get a black screen when the welcome screen should be present with just a cursor. Trying to boot using Ubuntu on flash gives me the same problems. Once in a while when I try to boot i get a blue screen, here;s the link

I am quite a novice but I'm afraid my GPU may be dead. I wanted to try and update drivers, perhaps doing a full re install of Windows and trying new drivers that way but I can't even get into my linux (I've tested it on a friends laptop, boots straight into Ubuntu just fine). Can anyone help me? Thanks :)
