I have win7 ultimate 64 12gb. 2 x hitachi 1tb drives. Os on drive c: and data on drive D:.

I took the drives out for some cleaning etc and replaced both drives all properly connected and both showing in BIOS. However disk D is not recognized, in Win management it is shown as healthy 1tb drive. There is no drive letter associated with the drive. Right clicking inside the drive area only shows 'help' there are no options to assign drive letters etc. The only option is 'help'.

I removed the C: drive and kept the d: drive in, booted the system from DVD recovery disk. Going to the command prompt the drive is recognized as C:\ and all the data is there.

Ran chkdsk /f and /r ( not at same time) still cannot get Win 7 to assign a drive letter to it.

The disk obviously runs fine but something is not right somewhere.

Any suggestions most appreciated.
