Hello everyone,

I have a week long camping trip and I doubt I'm bringing my car over. I need to keep my phone charged up for work purposes and of course gps/camera etc.

I went through a bad battery bank from Amazon and was just about to buy a new one when I realized I had 2 battery backups (ups) sitting next to my desk. 425va and 600va

IF these things can power a computer for 15-20 minutes. I imagine I could get at least a few charges out of it!!

My issue would be how clean the power would be. Would the Motorola charging plug keep any spikes at bay?

I'm going to remove the speaker to stop the beep and obviously will only turn on the UPS when I'll be using it (over night) in my tent. I'll have my laptop with me as well but I imagine my laptop being charged would kill the UPS battery in a matter of a few more minutes than a low end PC.

I know its not a sine wave PSU or anything fancy but I'm curious if this will safely work. I read a few posts back from like 2008 where people were saying the power could damage the phone.

I wasn't sure I believe that but before frying my phone / battery I would ask. I suppose I could yank it apart and watch it w/ a multi meter but thats at my office and I'm at home! lol

What you guys think?

Its a DROID MAXX with a 3500 mah battery so if I went w/ those battery banks I'd have to spend a boat load to charge it just 2-3 times.

It should be safe, but there's no grounding so I'd be cautious.

A better idea is to pull the big SLA batteries out and just wire up a car charger to them
