I just a got a new Asus - 15.6" - Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory/ram with the intel hd graphics family. It says I need 256mb of vram but my latest version says I get 1.8g. So I should be good with lower settings right?

If you really want to get a new RAM (Which I think you wont require) then make sure to go for corsair vengeance laptop RAM. They are the best in my opinion. Also they are very good for overclocking if you are planning to overclock your system in future. Have Fun. :bounce:

i have a similar Asus 15.6" laptop that runs Dayz fine on low-medium settings...it would be more helpful to know the exact model you're using though, as performance will vary

Ahmm. I don't think that Intel HD Graphics is any good to run DayZ as it has changed it's graphic engine also it is still in BETA Period so new updates might come. You will require atleast a Medium to High PC Built to run DayZ. Although it might work on Intel HD Graphics for now but changes will come so I don't suggest that you should play it on Integrated Graphics because it can cause some serious issues to your Integrated Chipset. Hope this helps:bounce:

if i am not mistaken then according to that model number, your laptop has a i5-4200u cpu with intel hd 4400 graphics....these specs should run dayz fine on low settings, in very detailed areas some lag maybe noticeable but otherwise you should be fine. I can say this with confidence because my laptop has a i5-3337u with intel hd 4000 ...yours fairs a bit better in the performance comparison so you should be fine. As someone has already mentioned, Dayz will be getting a newer engine, i'm not sure what that means in terms of minimum requirements to run the game, but i'm guessing the newer engine will be much more efficient and so will require less performance to run the game

EDIT: yes you can not upgrade a integrated chipset in a laptop, unless its a gaming oriented machine with a spare pci-e 16x or 8x slot...but for your case, no you cannot upgrade your graphics chipset

Thanks everyone for the help! I ended up having to return the asus because of a battery issue and I instead went with a hp envy m6 and It runs dayz like a dream! on normal settings of course. Im looking to upgrade the 6gb ram to 12 by replacing the 2gb stick with an 8. Any suggestions on the right one to buy. the model is m6-n010dx.

Don't bother doing that. It won't improve your laptop's performance at all. 6GB will be perfect for it. Also, you need to keep ram in paired sets. Having one stick be brand a and stick 2 being brand B can cause problems.

to be honest G.skill, Mushkin, Patriot and Corsair all of them make excellent ramsticks....as long as the ram has a life-time warranty is not by some random brands you don't know, you should be fine...although as said before, getting extra ram really wont help you a lot, your machine simply isn't powerful enough to get any real advantage...if you do intend to upgrade it though, be sure to get the exact same matching sticks to avoid problems
