The first post on the thread in the link will also include my computer's info (also, I've had it since about 2007, as a new laptop).
So this is happening again, and just as severely as it previously had. I've been using a new laptop for months, and don't mind using it. The only problem is that I need to get my music and photos off of my old Compaq laptop, which would be many. It might be that I need a new fan, because if I keep it on for more than 10 minutes, it crashes. I tried syncing some files onto a USB, and it damaged the USB (making it a write-protected drive that I cannot format, and am going through a process to format), so syncing through USB is not an option either.
I had an ice-pack under it to keep it cool, and it worked for maybe 15-20 minutes, but still was nowhere near enough (I kept the ice pack in a holder that kept it from wetting the computer, so it was safe).
I'm just extremely desperate at this point, and don't know what to do. Should I get it checked out by a technician to get the fan checked/changed? Do I clean it out? Please help.
