Dual Socket motherboard for simulation workstation

I'm looking for dual socket motherboards for CPU intensive simulations. Apps like Vue, Realflow and other 3D applications.

Currently looking to upgrade from a 3930k CPU.
I have no preference over AMD or Intel. More interested in performance, but hopefully, at a good price. Same goes for motherboard.

Any pointers towards a low end system/high end system and expected price points would be awesome.

Thanks.

  1. Anything AMD would probably be a downgrade.

Also, do you really need to upgrade?

Is a LGA2011 Dual socket mobo, you'd have to use Xenons and most programs simply can't us that many threads
(though it would be nice to have multiple GTX/R9 and Quadro/Firepro cards running at the same time.)
