Looking for a new CPU

Hello friends, it's been a while since I have touched my computer in regards to hardware and I have kind of fallen out with what's new with technology and parts and such. My knowledge is above average, I can take apart and put together a computer, but I don't know much advanced things. In 2012 I purchased a i7 2700k for around $350 IIRC, at the time it was extremely powerful and a little overkill, it seems now that everything is MUCH slower and I am looking to invest in a new CPU for the next couple of years. The rest of my parts are up to par, I have a GTX 680 4GB that I purchased last year for $600 at the time, so I definitely won't be needing to upgrade this for a while, I have 16 GB of RAM, and a 750 W. PSU. I'd like some suggestions on what the best intel chips are at the moment, but from what I've seen it seems like they're all 1150 sockets, whereas this motherboard is 1155, which at the time I thought was what the majority of the popular chips ran on, so my question is do I need to upgrade my mobo as well?

Everything in general is a lot slower and the temp has gone up a lot too, I have a CM Hyper 212 , and as I am writing this it's idling at 35-37c. Also my FPS in games has gone down quite a bit, not sure how much that has to do with the CPU, though.
