Hi there,

I just received my new Maingear shift (Windows 8.1) and encountered a few problems. Am hoping that you guys out there could give me some advice with all ur expertise:

1) Boot-up Screen

Whenever i turn on my PC, the screen with the Maingear logo will be shown first. Afterwhich, there will be a black screen with an underscore blinking at the top left corner of the screen. This screen appears a few times, before I finally get to the Windows 8.1 load screen before I finally get to my desktop. Is this normal? I am not too sure as I accidentally removed my only 4TB Seagate HDD previously.

2) Samsung Evo 840 (250gb)

I also recently bought a Samsung Evo 840 (250gb) SSD and would like it to be my OS disk. However, after installing the Samsung Data Migration application, and running it to clone my current HDD, i see a cloning error message. Any advice on how I can clone my current HDD and then make my SSD the OS disk?

Many thanks in advance. :)

My experience with any major hardware changes other than memory. Windows doesn't play well. I would save all my data and reload windows so that it identifies the SSD correctly. If you were cloning convention drives I would say it is would work fine. The SSD is a totally different beast and yes they provide you the software to clone. If you want the performance for the SSD and your system I would do a clean install. I know not a pleasant thing to do but in the long run I think you'll be happier. This is just my experince
