After not really playing many video games for a couple years and around five or six years after purchasing a PC, I decided that it was time to build a new system and give my favorite game, Skyrim another go.

I used the HDD and DVD drive from the old system and transferred them to the new system using 'system restore, out of box experience' with generalized enabled for the HDD,

My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit (maybe 64 Bit would help, but I am unsure)

I bought a barebones kit with the following:

Intel H81 motherboard

Intel i5 4460 CPU

2 x 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz memory

300W PSU

Separately, I purchased and installed the following:

600W PSU

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 3X OC 4GB

Initially, I installed the HDD and DVD drive into the barebones kit and checked that everything appeared to be working. I installed all the drivers from a DVD that came with the barebones kit. Everything seemed to work fine.

I then installed the 600W PSU and powered up the system. Again, everything seems fine.

Next, the GTX 770 was installed in the PCI-E x 16 slot, two power adapters were connected to it as required. I ran a HDMI cable between the GTX 770 and my TV.

The system was powered up, and the display and fans were and still are operational.

I then installed the GeForce Experience software from the disc that came with the GTX 770. Through this software the latest version of GeForce Experience and latest GTX 770 drivers were installed (2.1.00 and 337.88 respectively).

Next I opened Steam and began to open up Skyrim, which were already present on the HDD. I was told that high settings could be ran, so selected that setting and proceeded to select play to load the game. The in-game menu from the following image displayed correctly

I selected continue and my game began to load. After about 10 seconds the software crashed and exited. I tried this a few times on the same settings and the same happened. I then restarted my system, tried again, and the same happened.

Next, I checked the optimal settings for Skyrim suggested by GeForce Experience. The software suggested that I should run the game with every setting maxed out. So I went with these settings, tried to run the game again and encountered the same issue; it crashed.

Lastly, I tried Skyrim on the low setting and it worked just fine, despite my systems apparent capabilities.

I would love to hear to troubleshooting suggestions from anyone. :) If anyone wants additional information to help them answer, please ask me.
