I was thinking Gainward GTX 770 2GB, but maybe that's not enough video RAM? Or would even a 760 suffice.

I'm not going to use it primarily for gaming, but I would like to be able to do so without scaling down my resolution and still have ok settings.

I'm trying to get a grasp on what the performance is on these cards, benchmarks doesn't do me much.

Thanks :)

It really depends on how much you are willing to spend. Whichever of these cards you choose, they will all serve you well at 1440p. For the 770 I listed, you may not be able to max every title. However, it would still be a great experience. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

How does a GTX 770 with 2GB vRAM compare to one with 4GB?

Not when are you adding pixels why do think all the next gen cards are going to have 4 to 8gb of vram as resolution increases so does demand for vram. That is why pretty much all cards available wont do 4k well.

The 3/4GB cards are aimed more towards moderately higher resolution displays (1440p/1600p). The cards with more vram are aimed toward crazy multi-monitor and multitudes higher in resolution (think 4k+).
