I have a HP Envy 700-214 currently with a gtx 650 and a 250 gb samsung ssd on it, other than that nothing else has changed from the prebuilt rig.
I am planning on buying a Sapphire Tri-X R290x but first I need to know is it going to be compatible with my computer and fit in the casing? Also, I think I may need a better PSU since the included PSU of my rig is only 460W. If I do ever need a better PSU, how much wattage would I need? Thanks in advance!

Solution
Best bet is Antec and Seasonics (good across all models)
If they have Corsairs (more common ones) make sure they are one of these models
GS series (GS600 / GS800)
HX / HX v2 series
TX / TXM series

Avoid the CX, CXM, CS, RM and VS Corsair models

http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards
Radeon R9-290X - 12V 33A and a 600W psu minimum

Do you know what model of 650 you have? so we can get an idea on size, from what I can see any standard size card "should" fit dont know for sure on length though

Also says ATX for the power supply so should be easy to find one

For the motherboard it has a PCIe 3.0 slot so will work with any modern GPU

Sorry not very good with techy stuff and I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying but I'll answer to the best of my knowledge.
The GPU I have currently is a PNY GTX 650 2GB DDR5 model. I bought it about 3-4 months ago so that should be the correct model.
Am I correct in assuming that you're saying motherboard-wise , I have no problems but will have problems on PSU? If I'm correct, can you please recommend me a decent PSU that's not overpriced?
I think it will help so I'll edit this post in like 10 minutes and toss in a picture of how the inside of my rig looks atm

This is the GPU I'm looking to buy : http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Version-PCI-Express-Graphics-11226-00-40G/dp/B00HJOKARI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403991803&sr=8-1&keywords=SAPPHIRE+TRI-X+R9+290X
The only reason I want it is because I need an upgrade for gaming and my friend is coincidentally selling his brand new video card for only $300 which is almost half the price.

This is how the inside of my PC looks right now with a gtx 650.
I would like to know what changes/parts I need to make/buy to make my PC work with a http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Version-PCI-Express-Graphics-11226-00-40G/dp/B00HJOKARI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403991803&sr=8-1&keywords=SAPPHIRE+TRI-X+R9+290X
I was considering just doing an SLI to make it cheaper and my 650 won't go to waste but when I looked inside, it seems that there is no space for another GPU on my motherboard unless I am wrong.

You are right, your motherboard only has one PCIe slot so you can only run a single GPU, so looking for a good and not too pricey 600W PSU

This one is not ranked in that link I provided but has good reviews and is cheap (so if money is the key factor) - $35 650W ThermalTake
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/thermaltake-power-supply-sp650pcbus
The one I would recommend is this guy - $60 620W Antec (its the second highest tier and a good price for it

Yes, I'd like as cheap as possible, without compromising quality/durability for it. For example, I don't want a $30 psu which would burn out in a few months and will need to replace it. Is 600 watts the minimum to be able to use the video card I listed? I googled it and according to http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/product_index.aspx?pid=2090&lid=1 it says it needs at least 750W unless their website is allocating some allowance in the wattage use hence why they said 750w.

Don't know how they could come up with that, the 290x uses a 6+8 pin so that a max of 75(from 6)+150(from 8)+ 75 (PCIe)=300W being drawn by the GPU (at MAX), so add CPU and others (say 200W for everything else) and you get 500W, add some extra for safety but still well short of the 750W they quote (I've checked a few others and it looks like this is probably the AMD spec'd amount since all the manufacturers say the same thing)

So if you want to play it safe this one is on sale for 75 (from 100) - Antec 750W

Ohh... Well, I want to play it safe. I don't want the hassle of returning/exchanging a PSU xD

By the way, can you please give me an alternative brand/model? I'll be buying from a physical store so I won't be able to get the rebate from ncix =( the price would still be about 100~120 without the rebate from ncix.

Okay, thank you very much! Is there anything else that I should tell them? Like what kind of specific model of a PSU or what other than the 750w qualification?
