Hey guys,
So i'm new to gaming on computers so i know pretty much nothing about computers so i need help, badly. I just need to know what parts i should upgrade first in my computer to intensify my gaming ecperience.
so far all i know about my computer is:
2.40 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Motherboard
Corsair XMS 5gb RAM

If you guys could help me with Recommendations on what parts i should upgrade from greatest to least or any recomendations that will improve my gaming experience it would be much appreciated
Thanks.

I believe you're within the United States? Please correct me if I'm wrong. If so, with your budget you can easily upgrade your current machine to a top-end tier gaming system such as:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($187.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($84.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($73.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($339.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $686.94
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

To be honest, you can use...

To be honest, your CPU will bottleneck any modern graphics card hence it would be better if you upgrade your processor too. Your motherboard will support a Core 2 Quad, however if you want better performance you could upgrade your entire motherboard too.

Your current motherboard only supports DDR2, hence you'll need to purchase DDR3 RAM to use with a new motherboard. In addition to a new motherboard, you'll need a compatible CPU too.

What's your budget in terms of upgrading? How much were you initially willing to spend on an upgrade, or are willing to spend? Whatever your budget, we'll suggest you motherboard, CPU, RAM and GPU upgrades within your budget.

All the best. :)

To be honest, you can use the Core 2 Duo system for your general use and build a new system completely for gaming. The $800 USD budget should have you covered for a new entire build. If you don't want to spend your entire budget, you don't have to purchase the AMD R9 290 GPU, you can get a lower cost graphics card which may still be adequate for your use. The R9 290 is a high-end GPU, capable of running many games, if not all at ultra graphical setting.

Also the suggestion above is a great upgrade from your Core 2 Duo system; however you need to ensure your current power supply (PSU) will be able to support the R9 290. In addition IDE/PATA has been phased out in favour of SATA, hence if you're using any IDE hard drives or optical disc drives in your Core 2 Duo system, you'll need to replace them with a SATA alternative. Your current motherboard only has 1 IDE connector, whereas the rest are SATA; hence you maybe fine, but if you're using that IDE connector, you won't be able to use that device with the new motherboard.

If you would prefer to build a new system with your maximum $800 budget, that can be done too. Please reply back and I will curate a list of components within your budget.

All the best. :)
