Ive been thinking of getting a trusty WD Black 1tb hdd instead of a Seagate Barracuda 1TB drive for a future build, since ive heard Barracudas have problems like heating up too much, short life, noisier than should be, etc. I was looking at WD Black 1tb drives on newegg and saw this weird thing... both these drives seem to be the same thing, but one is $100 more, and i dont see why it would be so expensive. The FALS drive has 3,000+ reviews though so i guess its been around longer, maybe thats why? Idk. If a 1tb barracuda is like $90, why would a WD be $170? $70 seems closer to being the right price.

Any help here? Thanks in advance.

Solution
the 1001 is one of the first series drives and has only a SATA2 interface and 32MB cache; however, this one should have still TLER enable which will help in a RAID configuration.

1003 is the latest version and comes with a SATA3 interface and 64MB of cache but does not support TLER

that could be the reason why the 1001 is priced close to the WD RE drive
