I am looking at building my first desktop and i wanted to know the general rank of components to go big on if i am just looking at basic computer use and watching HD movies.
If i want to have a fast computer for just general internet use, which component should i look into the most? I would think it would be the processor?
I am very new to this though.
Thank you

Bigger does not necessarily mean better. There are several important factors in building a pc.
1. Power. Quality counts. The psu directly touches upon every single major component in a pc. A crappy, cheaply built psu can have severe detriments to both the life of the pc and the enjoyment you want to expect.

2. Airflow. A badly designed case with sub-par fans will do nothing more than drive up temps of the CPU, gpu and motherboard, robbing you of said enjoyment and most definitely, performance.

3. Usage. No point in going for the biggest and baddest and most expensive if you will not use it. For a jack-of-all-trades pc, you need nothing more than a decent @$100 H87/97 or 970 mobo, i5 4430 or fx8320 CPU, gtx 760 or r9-270 gpu, WD or...

With that, you'll be able to do anything well, even pretty damned good, but maybe not wow. You are looking at a budget of $600-$1000 at most.

4. Taste. You have your own. Ppl can recommend cases, brands, looks, sound quality, etc, but the end result is you have to live with your choices, we don't. Choose wisely. So some research, there us plenty of opinions, facts, benchmarks, tests etc to be had. Tom's, overclockers.UK, johnnyguru, to name some good sites. PCPartPicker.com is invaluable for a good selection on pc building.

Good luck :D
