Second Monitor keeps making the disable/enable device sounds while asleep

I swapped from a Radeon 6850 to a R9 290 Toxic OC the other day. Already had the 14.6 beta drivers.

Main monitor: DELL S2740L
Secondary: Acer P223WA

The only thing that seems to be an issue now is that when my second monitor goes to sleep but is not turned off, I'll hear my computer making sounds like a usb device is being unplugged and plugged back in. It's random when it does it but it happens every time and it's quite frequent.

I also hear the disconnect sound every time I turn off my second monitor and the connect sound when I turn it back on. My main monitor does not do this.

Let's see -- what else is relevant info? I am using DVI for both monitors. Windows 8.1.

Any ideas?

Is this a case of the monitor being 6 years old so it doesn't mesh well with the brand new GPU? It's been fine and it's still fine, it just disables/enables randomly in sleep mode with the new video card and it gets disabled in device manager when I turn it off and shows back up when I turn it on. Did not do this with the prior 3 video cards. If it just did it during sleep mode or had other issues too, I may agree with you.

By swapping the ports you could see that it still had the same problems. The card also doesn't have problems with the first monitor.

So it's not the card and it's the second monitor. Now can you try different ports on the second monitor? Can you try a different cable?

Then why does the monitor behave normally with my other video cards?

I don't think it's either the GPU or the monitor. I think it's the age difference between the two or some kind of newer GPU feature I'm not aware of. I can't find anything by looking at the card's specs though.
