Hey Everyone,

So recently I've been delving into some old games that I haven't played in a while. I've noticed that the frames are choppy even though I have a high end system. Upon further research, I read that older games don't run well with multiple threads. Would I see a big improvement if I wear to say.. Head out and buy the new Intel G3258 Pentium? Since it is a dual core CPU, and it's unlocked. So would I see a boost in my frame rates if I switched back to a dual core CPU?

Solution
You could go into the bios and disable cores and see it they really run better with just two cores.Just as an experiment.

See if there's a newer bios available.
See if there's a driver update or even try older drivers.
Look for game patches.

Which games are you trying to play??
Almost all of the games are SINGLE THREADED.no its not necassary to buy the g3258 at the moment. It may also occur due to the OS that you are using, the drivers etc.. check these before you head out and burn money..

Unlocked process do very well in overclocking, however your current processor may simply be better without any overclocking(not saying that overclocking is a bad practice,IT's a great process and a must for every g3258 owners)

I've started Oblivion, the Witcher, and a lot more games from 2006-2007. Anyways, I've looked around and most people just say that it's because of my current processor (I7 4770k).

if the game runs there is no point in running in compatibility mode!yes mods would matter if you do them incorrectly

Well, I know that I've modded the games correctly, so you would not suggest buying the new Pentium then?

you should have no problem with the witcher, I've run it on my 580/3570k system.

I bet it's a driver problem/ patch problem as Vic suggested. Or it might be due to a part overheating. Don't waste your money on a G3258, the i7 should breeze through older games. In fact here's a video of a person with the exact same specs as you running it without a problem:

For Oblivion, it was .ini tweaks and this mod http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/10400/?
Also, an overclock helped a lot.
Other older games, it was mostly overclocking that did the trick.
