Its not a bad i3 for gaming (of course an i5 or i7 will outperform it), but I would also consider the new Pentium G3258 as it is unlocked and can OC really well. If you are comfortable with overclocking your CPU and don't use heavy multi-threaded workloads or lots of multi-tasking then it could be a worthy option. I think they retail for between $70-$80. So add an aftermarket cooler like the hyper 212 evo for $35 and for around $110 you have a really good combo.

Edit: Check this vid and skip to about 5 mins, it has the performance of the Pentium vs the new i7 4790k.

I would choose the Core i3-4150 because it is a cheap and good processor.
And I can upgrade it in the future because it uses the LGA 1150 socket, the same as the Core i5 and the Core i7.

Definitely a good option for someone on a budget! Just letting you know, the same channel (LinusTechTips) that I linked you to is meant to be releasing an overclocking guide with the Pentium in the near future, so if you were interested that is always an option. But if not, the i3 is still a good budget pick
