This is not average. I built a little server out of some new and used parts. What's important is the motherboard and RAM. The RAM is a 2x2 kit of 1333 Microcenter RAM and the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P(REV 5.0). Of the 4GB of RAM, Windows says I only have 3GB. That's strange, because it means it detects 1 and 1/2 sticks. And on top of that, only 1.75GB are usable, which seems very low. Thanks for your help, this is my first question on here, and I expect great results from this wonderful community.

What OS are you running? Windows Vista or Windows 7 32-bit versions will not detect all 4 GB of RAM.

+1 Joseph, a 32bit OS won't detect over 3.1gb (ish)

I think the RAM slot is just shot. It detects 1GB of the 2GB stick that goes into it. Its a used board and I'm just going to have to get another.
