Hello I have a couple of questions.

I'm looking for a new Dell XPS 8100 like this:.
http://www.dell.com/uk/dfh/p/studio-xps-8100/pd

* Intel Core i7 870 running at 2.93Ghz
* Motherboard is a Dell 0G3HR7
* GeForce GTX 460 graphics card

It need to be 550W or above, and the quieter the better, no hassle, the cables need to be compatible.

As an afterthought I'm also considering upgrading the motherboard and CPU. Any suggests on what to get? I guess I would need to buy different memory as well for a new motherboard

The criteria is however:

I don't want to rebuild Windows 8 (I just rebuilt it recently).
I'm using four hard drives which are mirrored (so I can see two hard drives).
Ideally I just want to plug in the motherboard/CPU and go within the same case (I have swapped out motherboards/CPUS's before so more of less know how to do it).

However I suspect I will probably better and cheaper to buy a new PC.
The power supply is my main question however....

Thanks!!

Alex

Hi

Do you have a Dell version of windows if so it will object to a non Dell motherboard
And possibly a different Dell motherboard
A different motherboard may case problem for mirror

A different motherboard chipset may require re installing windows or at least
Backup data incase of problems
Remove drivers seem in program & features
Eg video, audio, network etc
Remove hard disk controller drivers from registry
Power down

Don't connect hard disks until motherboard can boot up from windows cd or DVD or USB

Be prepared to loose mirror and have to start again
Start with one pair and see what happens before tying next pair

Seasonic is a well regarded brand of psu

Is reason for change a wish to upgrade graphics card or psu has failed?

Thanks... The Windows 8 OS I'm running is not OEM. Probably best to buy another PC in this scenario then.

Could anybody give me the specific makes and models of PSU's 550W and above that will work with this configuration with the minimum of hassle (will fit in the case with the right connectors). The quieter the better. Full spec in my first post.

Thankyou very much...
