Too much voltage? My temps okay? Memory question too.

Hello all!

So, as the title shows - I have 3 questions.

I built my computer(4770k(OC@4ghz), 280x and did an Aida64 test and it has a warning icon on a few items.

When I first ran it, it said ym CPU had 1.2000v Voltage and a warning sign, now it says 1.200v.. I set it to 1.36v in the BIOS, because it kept crashing with less than 1.36v sadly.

My temps are probably bad(idle) - as i'm still using the stock cooler, until next week which is when i'll get a nice shiny DH-14, unless there's anything newer/better now a days?

So, the above is two questions in one I guess.

Last question: I have 8gb XMS3 1333 CL9 ram, and a few days ago I decided to buy another set to help with some apps, and hopefully less SSD throttling. I checked a few minutes ago, as it has been dispatched and to my horror I ordered a different one. I ordered XMS3 8GB 1600 CL11..

I currently have my cl9 running at cl11@2000MHZ as it technically is better than 1600@cl9. So. The question is - will I be able to slide the CL11 in and expect to be able to perhaps keep my OC? If not - do you think it could hit 1866@CL11 at least? If so that won't be so bad as it shouldn't be too much worse than 1600@CL9.

DEFINITELY do not set voltage to 1.36 Volts. Most high end coolers couldn't even handle that. Don't go over 1.25. Do not overclock AT ALL with the stock cooler, you will fry your chip. That isn't a warning symbol, that is just the Voltage symbol. I would set your Voltage with Turbo Boost off to 1.044 V and with Turbo Boost on, 1.2 V. Keep it there, no offset voltage, just static voltage.

As for memory, do not run them at separate speeds. Major stability issues there. Return the new RAM and get another set of CL9 1333MHz, or something that came to mind is that the second set of RAM is probably 1.35 V (Low voltage). Try boosting that to 1.5 V and go to CL10 1600MHz. With your other (old) RAM, move to 1600 MHz CL10. That is some pretty low speed RAM you have there, especially at those timings.

Darn. I'm not sure how to reply to you.
Even if the CPU is not overclocked at all it won't let me go lower than 1.36v either.
Fixed mode. If I leave it to default it goes to 1.8 or 1.9v and even says to use 1.9v iff overclocking 0_o

Oh my God. Is that VRIN or VCore? If VCore was that high, any 4770K with LN2 would explode and burn out. That would be a misreading. RMA that chip and get a new one. I have the same experience, but less extreme. My chip can't go past 4.3 without hitting 1.4 Volts, but at 4.2 it is fine at 1.25.

Last time I built an intel PC was in about 2002 I think. I'm going to load BIOS up and take some pictures and brb.. :(

I actually had it at 1.4v for a week or so, but it was getting 12% throttle on AIDA so I tried to lower it as much as possible without crashing and now it's getting 0% throttle so that's neat, but I'm worried the 1.35 is still too much now.. Can't wait to get a nice HSF on top, providing this isn't a dud chip..

That is a dud chip. Mine is stable at 1.15-1.2 Volts at 4.0 GHz. That is a dud. The cooler doesn't change the voltages required. RMA it while you can.

If 1.35v is bad why does the MoBo recommend 1.8-1.9V? Look ath the description in the last pic.. Thanks 0_o

Not sure where CPU Core voltage is on your particular motherboard. Any static option in offset?

Okay, after playing around I made the Input voltage 1.8 and changed the CPU Vcore adaptive voltage to 1.1v in the end and its booted and ran AIDA 64 okay. Only two thigns is - 1: CPUID says its at 1.216V and 2: I'm getting 20% throttle now 0_o

What are your temperatures? You do not want adaptive. Set it to offset +0.025 and the main core voltage to 1.175 V. See what CPU digital IO voltage is.

OH MY GOD! I changed it to override mode and then the description changed to fixed core voltage! MAN OH MAN! YES! I booted back into windows and it stayed at 1.75v too! Only problem is... my cpu temp is not 50c instead of 34c.. That's a huge jump? Is that to be expected from a stock cooler and why did it jump 20c higher from making it lower volts? 0_o

Hell yes! After some tinkering around, thanks to you - I have these results:

4ghz@1.13v with stock cooler

Idle Temps: 36c
Max Temps: 82c
0% throttle.

Mental. Might even be able to lower the voltage even more too. I'm not too sure if it's worth me even getting an after market cooler now because I don't think an extra 200-400mhz will be worth it lol

No problem man, hoping you are having a good time. Don't lower Voltage any more, 1.2 V at 3.9 GHz is stable. 1.13 is pushing it. Test it for 24 hours to see stability.
