Hi, I was recently asked to fix my girlfriend's family member's PC. I put a clean boot of vista on it and everything was working perfectly. It was rather slow so I wanted to get some RAM to speed it up a bit. They only use it for browsing and it's around 4-5 years old so the RAM was a bit dead and I ordered new RAM. I wanted to check the opening of the case and where the RAM ports were before ordering. I removed the existing RAM stick then popped it back in. Checked over everything (as sometimes I guess things can pop out) and everything was in place.

Now, putting everything back together, the PC wouldn't boot up at all. The monitor is getting no signal (checked monitor with laptop and working fine). No idea what's happened!!

I have a feeling the RAM went bad? As RAM is necessary to boot the PC or even get into your BIOS?

Ordered RAM so I hope it's definitely the problem. Hoping someone could give me some advice.

Man that's a long link. Anyway the whole thing is a store bought PC with all the same components from factory.

Cheers for any advice! This is driving me up the wall!!

Wow, I just found out HP's Troubleshooting manual for that PC is near worthless. I'm personally thinking that perhaps the ram did die when removed - I think I'll suggest waiting until the new ram arrives and seeing where you get from there.

Yes, ram is necessary for a successful BIOS post (thought I'd throw that in there since I didn't address it at first).

Hey thanks for your answer. Popped battery out and even checked if it had power in it. Battery is fine. Left it out for 30seconds then popped back in. Still no display! :(

It is 3v

The RAM I ordered is now out of stock. Gonna have to wait a while until it arrives. Will still keep you posted.
