I know the correct thing to do here is to upgrade my PC or swap the stock 375w PSU but i want to ask the question anyway.

I currently have a Dell XPS 420 Q6600 2.4Ghz (over clocked to 3.0Ghz), 8GB RAM, Radeon 5770 Hawk GPU.

I want to get something that is better for flight sim x and keep coming back to the GeForce GTX 760.

Can I install this card and will it run in a Dell XPS 420 with a stock 375w PSU given that FSX isn't hard on a GPU, more so the CPU..

If this isn't going to work then what is the best GPU I can install in the above config rig? I would like to go better than my 5770 Hawk GPU...

Thanks

It would work but with that old system you won't get the maximum performance

Thanks for the response. Do you think I would get an uplift in performance over my 5770 Hawk?

Get a 750 ti instead.

Why, is it a better card than the GTX 760?

What does the ti mean?

It will be better for your set up than 760 is. Ti just means improved version and is usually clocked higher than non ti. The 760 is better card than 750ti, but your system will be bottle-necking it. Since your system will not be pushing the performance of 760 to its full potential, save some money and get 750 ti.

Thanks. I tend to use my PC for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I may end up at a later date (cash permitting) get a better PC. With this in mind would I still be best to go for a 750 ti over the 760, or go for the 760 with the intention to put this in a new PC (if and when I get one)?

If your housing your 760 temporarily in this pc, get the 760 and carry it over to your new pc then. That's even better. However x99 platform will be out too, so keep that in mind as well.

Thanks, with the same principle in mind of temporarily running it in my existing machine, would I be able to power and run a 770 instead of 760 or will this fail to run in my machine?

You just need to make sure you have a good power supply unit, and you should be fine with almost any card. It wont be used to its potential, thats all. Would recommend any bronze+ certified corsair psu. A good psu will keep your components safe.
i currently have this one:

Update: I looked at your psu , it will need an upgrade. Its an important upgrade or you might end up damaging your expensive card.

Thanks. Will the 760 need a PSU upgrade?

I dont believe there to be many if any options that will fit an xps 420

Can you check if you have PCI Express 3.0 or 2.0 slot in your motherboard or not?
Yes you will need psu upgrade to use 770 or even 760. I would suggest you upgrade your psu first than anything else and save money again for your gpu. You can use psu again on your new pc . Get 650 - 750 Watts to be future proofed for a while.

I believe I have only version 2.

Any ideas on PSU's that are compatible with the Dell XPS 420 case? I also understand there are issues with power cable count and cable lengths? Can anyone advise on a 650 or 750 PSU that is compatible with a Dell XPS 420?

I think the one I linked you earlier will work. Cable managing will be hard though. I remember replacing psu in my old prebuilt asus cm6870 case, and i zip locked all the extra wires right next to the psu where there was some space. Plus all the standard psu are of same size so if u wanna get 750 watts instead of 650 i linked you , dont worry it will be fine.
But do check with someone if its possible to upgrade psu, however i believe you should be fine. Make sure to get a second thought on it from someone else as well.
