I recently got a new Radeon R9 270x Toxic Graphics card. Before this card I had a Nividia GTX 650. So to make a long story short, I installed the new GPU in the same pci slot that my old GTX GPU was in. Started up the pc, lights, fans, ect. worked fine on the card, but right after the boot screen I was met with a black screen. So I took out the new card and put the old one back in, well it worked. I thought I had a DOA card but I tried it in my other pci port (that had never had a card in it) and it worked fine. So my question is, why will the old card work in the fist pci slot and the new one will not?

did you uninstall the drivers for the old card.....( add/remove programs ) ..... shut down....... pull old card/install new. reboot. let windows find card and then maybe install newer drivers for new card?

As swifty said (Hello again swifty), remove all drivers and make sure you have enough power. Your power supply has to handle more load because the TDP from a GTX 650 to an R9 270X is from 64 Watts to 180 Watts. Make sure you have 2 PCIe power connectors connected to the GPU.

Nothing? You can just use the other port, really. There is no difference there.

Maybe when you put the card in for the first time you did not seat it properly.

what is the new card "jarring" loose that the old card doesn't? and is it possible the card is not sitting firmly ( front and back ) in the slot because of a high capacitor or a sata cable?

Every thing fits fine and it powers up correctly, I thought doing a hard reset on the motherboard might work.

Yeah I'm with the other guy. Try removing the cmos and unplugging the pc, After that hold the power to drain out any remaining power left in the pc, then put the cmos back in.

Ok I did the reset on the motherboard without success, I cant tell if this is a problem with the board or the gpu, any suggestions are much appreciated.

Are there any chain stores i.e. Best Buy or some store like that that I could take the card to and let them test it for me?

A PC repair shop would be a good option.
