Asus p8z68vlx continuous reboot

Hi everyone.

Basically my computer just constantly reboots over and over and over again. These are new parts which I have installed which are the p8z68v-lx and an i5 2500k and I'm yet to get it to work.

The parts are second hand because I was on a right budget and couldn't get them parts new anymore.

These are the full specs of the computer.

Xfx gtx 295
Intel i5 2500k
Asus p8z68 v-lx
Corsair vengeance 2x4gb 1600mhz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
Antec 900 case
OCZ gameXstream 850w psu

So here I start. Basically it turns on the dram light and cpu light turns on once and then turns off when the computer turns of. I read that they turn on when they are working correctly and then turn back of, and they flash when there is an issue, so my guess is it isn't that. Anyway then it turns off and turns back on and does this continuously.

I have tried resetting the CMOS also no change, tried different configuration of the TPU An EPU switches tried reconnecting every cable multiple times. Tried to place the gpu in a different slot and also tried it without a gpu.

Tried placing 1 ram stick in each slot an then trying to reboot also no luck.

I have tried to reposition the cpu by taking it all apart and replacing it. I looked to see if there is any bent pins which I cannot see even with a magnifying glass.

I'm not connecting my monitor etc etc although I don't think that will make the computer boot?

Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for spelling and grammer mistakes as I'm writing this on my phone.

did you reformat the drive?.........

did you get into the BIOS?............ check boot sequence.

remove gpu and hook up to on board graphics.

I did not reformat the drive, I didn't think I would have needed too.

I can't even get to bios as it powers for a couple of seconds and then turns back off again.

I have removed the gpu and tried to boot, you don't need to connect on board graphics do you? Thought it was automatic.

if you can't see anything you can't work.

pull the graphics card out of the machine/hook to on board. trying to troubleshoot.

what was in the machine before the "new" board and processor?

Before I put the 'new' mobo and cpu in there was a asus p5p43td and a q8300 inside. So can't trial and error with different parts.

that's what I'm looking for. your "new" stuff doesn't sound like it's very good. if you don't want to try anything don't ask for help. do you have any idea how hard it is to try and figure something out over the internet? each one of these threads are different/each one of these threads are the same.

I could sit here and tell you your board is bad.......... then I look at the constant reboot........ cpu's will do that. sooner or later you'll get nothing. do you hear any clicking?........... got thermal paste on the cpu and is the heat sink on correctly?

I understand trying everything which I am doing, I will try remove it all today and put in the old motherboard and that way I will know if it's the psu or not. I'm very stressed ATM because of all this stuff.

I hear clicking which could be from the hdd or cd drive but also could be from the fans starting up. You can hear it in the video if you turn it right up.

Anyway I'll get trying these other things also gonna try taking out the mobo battery if I can.

If anyone lives in Essex I'll be more then happy to pay them money to come get this work

I have just tried too power up the motherboard outside the case. I put the motherboard ontop of a cardboard box left the psu inside the case, added 1 ram stick, gpu, cpu, hsf connected it all up and i still had the same issue then tried connecting the sata for the hdd and still the same issue.

Atleast i know now it isnt shorting on the case it must be another a hardware issue so either the mobo, cpu or psu, i even tried 1 ram stick in each of the 4 slots and had the same result.

Is there any other suggestions I can try before regarding this as a hardware problem.

The one thing that hasn't been brought up here is that the motherboard was swapped out. This will require a reinstallation of Windows, unless the new board is identical to the old. If the OP has an OEM copy of Windows this will also require a new license be purchased as the OEM license is tied to the motherboard and cannot be transferred, except in the case of Windows 8, which does allow transfer.

If you're talking about the old motherboard, no, you cannot install Windows on one motherboard and use the drive on another (different) motherboard without reinstalling as the low level drivers installed are tied to the specific hardware detected during installation. You need to sort out the problems with the new hardware first. There may be a reason that this stuff is second hand

Well thats the conclusion I'm coming too right now is that it is second hand and being sold for a reason. The sellers have said they will accept a return to test their end to see if it is working.

So your suggestion is to reinstall windows with my new motherboard but i cannot actually access bios to do so? Cant I just access the hard drive from my old setup, delete everything on it and then plug it back into my new setup and then install windows?

with no hard drive plugged in it still does the exact same thing and on the breadboarding guide it says not to add the hdd and cdd so it should still boot to bios without a hard drive?

If you can't access BIOS with the HD attached there's little reason to expect any different with the drive detached.

Think I'm just going to have to test with other parts and rule out what the culprit is really.
