I have tried to port forward time and time again. Some of my friends have checked how I port forwarded and said I did it right (they have successfully port forwarded). I have a Netgear Genie WNDR3700v3. I know how to port forward just walk me through the settings that would stop others from connection to me. Any help would be appreciated!

Port forwarding is very simple in terms of the router and the router firewall although some bugs on some hardware do exist. Anyway if you have the router setup correctly then usually the reason for a failure is that the port is technically open via the router but the destination or forwardedIP is not. This can be due to a whole host of reasons but is usually windows firewall and security, Antivirus software, or the service security settings of the software expected to handle the forwarded request. Sometimes people dont even have the service running.

Yo can check your ports using this site: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
