Ok, this does not apply to me now; but can I swap motherboards and still use the same key. to clarify: say swapping an asus with an MSI, i purchased an OEM copy of windows 7 off of amazon and i would like to know if the SAME key can be used if windows deactivates itself?

Its possible, I did it with Windows 8.1 just recently. Just deactivate your copy of windows, search Google for that by the way, and when you go to reinstall, don't do it connected to the internet. Enter your key offline and it will work, then when all said and done. plug in your Ethernet, activate WI-fi whatever and use the activate by phone. It will give you a number to call, which is an automated system along with an install id. Follow the instructions from the system, and the answer top the "How many computers is this installed on " question is 1, but in order for that to work, windows must be deactivated. After all is said and done, the automated system will give you a confirmation id which you type and, and voila, Windows is...
