Odd resolution (3440x1440), 780 3gb or 6gb?

So I'm getting a temporary gpu to cover the gap to Maxwell, as my 660ti is far too weak at this current resolution. Although I do run a triple monitor setup, I am only planning to game on the central monitor, which is a 3440x1440 monitor. Would I run into any vram issues with the 3gb version of the 780 at this resolution? I may however watch movies and streams while gaming. These I presume would be normal 1080p, though the side monitors are 2560x1440. Which GPU would you get as a sort of temporary fix until Maxwell. And no, I do not plan on spending $150-$200 more for a 780ti.

If you can get one for a similar price to the 780, get an r9 290 (290x if you can). It has similar performance but with an extra GB of vram which is needed for some games.

Thing is, a 780/290 is a bit expensive for a "temporary gpu to cover the gap to Maxwell". Rumour has it they'll be here in october (Not 100% sure so don't quote me on that), I'd say stick with the 660ti until then

Eh, October is 3 months and I'm far too impatient. I'll just upgrade to the 880 or whatnot when it comes out after whatever gpu I get atm. But I'll take a look at the 290s.

$400 (Or whatever currency you use where you are) seems like a lot for a temporary card, but that's just be. If you're gonna sell the card to gain funds for the "880" then remember that the price of these cards will drop when the 800 series is released

They both have good features, depends which ones you think are more important:

290x: Mantle, 4GB GDDR5 (Instead of 3), Eyefinity (Sounds like you have a 3 monitor setup, this could help)

780: PhysX, Geforce Experience, ShadowPlay

(I've probably missed a load)
