will this get the job done?

Solution
This is pretty close in price but much faster (actually cheaper before rebates):

Agreed, the raidmax are poison :(

Reference this list to see how power supplies are ranked

The XFX 550w is so weird lol. It's onsale for $25 one day, then it jumps way up to $59...($45-50 is where it's ideal)

I recommend this Antec 620w for the same price.

You could get a better motherboard for cheaper to

Also, I think you can find some r9 270x for the same price as that r7 265.

Great mins think alike, right? :D

A good point about the GPU, here's a very good example: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-r9270xgaming2g

major problems: EVERYTHING.
CPU was left in the dust when BF4 came out 2 years ago, and is NO LONGER RELATIVE to current gaming demands. If your heart set on AMD, your only able to get a FX-8xxx as your ONLY gaming option.

The GPU is low end cheap, and doesn't perform well on current and forward games. Your budget needs to increase to around $1000, as the baseline GPUs for WatchDogs, etc. is a AMD R9 or a Nvidia 760/770 to get decent play, and those START at $399. I would personally just get a i5 Haswell 'off the shelf' (check www.slickdeals.net usually around $349) then invest in a proper PSU (pcpickparts $90 for 600W) then spend the rest I could on a decent video card.

You aren't overclocking or even video editing, so with an $800 budget there isn't any reason to go for AMD.

A few points:

-Personally, I'd leave the SSD as the upgrade and keep the r9 280.

-Since no overclocking and the build is now intel, you could really change the PSU to a EVGA 500w B1 as 620w is beyond overkill. It can be argued that PSUs can be used in rebuilds, but though I'd mention.

-Totally agree about the case. That thermaltake chaser was $90, 10%+ of your budget and the MX300 will do the same job for less. There are plenty of good alternatives under $50 if you don't like the look of that case. On the other hand, a case is reusable in future builds so a good one now might be alright. Totally up to you.

I would strongly suggest the Intel build over AMD. Tom Tancredi touched on some of the points; the FX is really dated compared to the newer intel chips. You will get far better performance from the i5, not to mention less heat/power.
