Hi
Thinking of buying AMD fx 6300 with new ASRock 970 Extreme4 mo/bo

Does that mean i have to upgrade my HANTOL 550watt PSU to something more stable/stronger?

I read some bad reviews about this GPU on the net. Like someone says it almost ruined his system.
Is that possible and in what way? Especially upgrading from a celeron to fx 6300 made me thinking.

What do you think?

Hope you never plan on upgrading the CPU on that system.

by "on that system¨i assume you mean the old PSU, not the mo/bo i am planning to buy for the 6300, right?

AM3+ is a dead platform with no upgrade path, that is why I said it.

And what is the upgradable alternative, logainofhades?
I mean what mo/bo do you suggest for the fx 6300?

You could get a Core i3 LGA1150 CPU . That is not a dead platform and will have Broadwell coming its way soon.

[PCPartPicker part list](http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RsCF4D) / [Price breakdown by merchant](http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RsCF4D/by_merchant/)

Type|Item|Price
:----|:----|:----
**CPU** | [Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz Dual-Core Processor](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i34130) | $109.98 @ SuperBiiz
**Motherboard** | [ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-h97mpro...) | $84.98 @ Newegg
| | **Total**
| Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available | $194.96

That will run you the same price for similar performance, with this falling a tiny bit behind, but will not show weakness in gaming.

I do not suggest FX at all, unless you are in the US and live near a microcenter. Otherwise, buy an i3 and H97 pro 4, and have an upgrade path to Broadwell. FX 6300 will lose out to an i3 90% of the time without an overclock, which makes the cost even more. AM3+ your upgrade options are pretty limited, where as with the H97 board, you have a far more upgrade options.

You never know, AMD could pull a card out of their sleeve and release a new architecture or maybe a 10 core CPU (way down the road) because Intel is releasing an 8-core CPU.

AMD's new arch is at least another year or two out, and won't be on AM3+.

You never know, it could happen, but probably won't. It probably is a good idea to instead go Intel as we suggested. An H97 board will be compatible with Broadwell, too.

If you read the AMD speculation thread, you would know that AM3+ support only extends to 2015, and the roadmap has nothing new coming for it. The new arch will be a totally different design, as AMD is scrapping the Faildozer concept for it.
