Hello Tom´s Hardware Forum, I am new here and just skimmed through the ***How to ask for help regarding your wireless network*** Thread. Therefore I´ll tell you my problem first and rebiew my specs later.
So I odered a new D-Link - DWA-182 Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter from Amazon.de about two weeks ago and it finally arrived. I installed it a couple of hours ago and restarted my PC. Hence logging in to my account and booting up google chrome, I went on a internet speed test website and saw I was getting at most 0.34 Mbp/s. I was shocked because I had a 6 year old Zio Zioshot USB Adapter that got at most 1.6 Mbp/s. I´m asking if I have been sold out on a new gen Adapter or if I need to give it time. I´m sorry for I om quite inesxpierenced with Network Tech, unlike most other computer specs.

I have a Asus CM6870 Series with a GTX 760, Intel i7-3770, 8 Ggs of RAM and a 64-bit Windows 8 OS.

I apologize to those who don´t have time to read all this, sadly there´s more:
I am currently hooked up with both my old and new adapters to the router upstiars, with of I know nothing of due to it being installed directly into our TV-Box. It´s from UPC Cablecom, since I live in Switzerland. Maybe it has to do with the walls being made of stone, but I dont get how a 6 year old Adapter is better than a new Gen one.

P.S. E-mail me for more Info, if it is needed, due to me not being on Tom´s Hardware alot; nikmyth@hotmail.com

Best regards,
Nikola Veljkovic.

I have installed all the drivers that came with my USB Adapter, and updated them, including any existing drivers; although I dug deeper into my system Information and it says I have 10 drivers that need updating. I´ll go update them and I´ll report back.

Well I uninstalled both USB Adapters and installed the new one and updated it; now it works but not even to 1/8 of what my service provider gives me. I hope there is a way to "boost" it up?
