I am about to pull the trigger and order the i7 4790k and a z97 motherboard. which motherboard should I get the msi z97 gaming 7 or the asus z97 pro with out Wi-Fi ? both motherboards come with a i7 4790k for the same price of $490 in a combo deal from newegg.com

I would get the Z97 PRO if it is the same price, ASUS parts are usually considered to be more premium, and the addition of Wi-Fi is nice. For the same price, the additional features make it difficult to ignore.

I have the previous version (Z87 PRO) and it is a great board, with more features than i can use. You have more than enough I/O ports etc on either board.

If the Z97 PRO is anything like my Z87 PRO board, or the one in the Toms Hardware Z87 review, it will also be able to give you some good overclocking.

Most of the things advertised on the MSI board are marketing terms to try and get you to buy one for gaming, eg the 'Gaming USB port', 'Game networking', 'Audio Boost 2' etc.

the asus z97 pro that comes in the combo deal does not have Wi-Fi . I can also get the gigabyte z97x gaming 7 in the combo deal with the i7 4790k for $480 which is $10 less then the other two options . would you consider the gigabyte z97x gaming 7 over the asus z97 pro and msi z97 gaming 7 ?

I see that you have a i7 4770k @ 4.2ghz how much voltage did you have to use ? I have a i7 4770k @ 4.3ghz I had to set my v-core to 1.254v and set my un-core to 3.7ghz and set my un-core voltage to 1.200v . I have the same cpu cooler as you
