I have started having an issue with certain steam games, on in particular which is my favorite game "terraria". I have gone through the motions and uninstalled/reinstalled steam, windows 7, graphic card drivers, xna framework. I have tried every fix I have found on google, some of which are from this forum. I am at a complete loss on how to fix this crash I keep getting. Its usually within the first 20 minutes of playing the game.

I have however gotten the same crashes while playing warframe, sacred 2, torchlight 2, but have yet to encounter these crashes on anything but these steam games, I also play league of legends which works perfectly.

Im on a fresh install of my entire system and here is what event viewer says about it

Faulting application name: Terraria.exe, version: 1.2.4.1, time stamp: 0x537510f8

I have searched the exception code and found it can be hardware related, but my hardware is solid as I can play the witcher, league of legends and so on with no problems, watch movies, use skype.

The crashes always happen the same way on all the games. First skype crashes, then the game crashes, and everything on my computer is wonky and glitchy until I restart it, its not a full system crash like most people encounter.

memtest showed no errors, hd is fine, everything seems fine to me I dont know what to do.

No overclocks, temps are monitored and never go anywhere out of the ordinary. I dont have an actual soundcard, its just the integrated sound.

Hardware specs wont be any part of the solution, the game worked fine up until recently "i have about 600 hours on the game". So its something, but I have no idea what it could be, hardware failure would be consistent in all games not just specific ones. Software conflicts it could be, but Im on a fresh install of everything and im so freekin lost here.

It only happens consistently on this one game, 90% of the time within the first 20 minutes of playing it, almost like clockwork. If not that soon then in the first hour for sure.

Yes its an hdmi cable monitor.
Tried verifying, and reinstalling everything on my pc over again. I may try it again just to make sure.

Will do, be back shortly.

Question, I have 3 sound devices listen in my sounds in device manager.
AMD high definition audio device
Plantronics gamecom 780--my headset im using to talk to people on skype
Realtek High definition audio.

Would having all these devices cause a conflict in my sounds?

Nope, otherwise it would not be listed in device manager. He almost certainly has an usb headset. Try disconnecting that too if only disabling realtek doesnt help. And third, hdmi audio. In fact, if you are not using it at all, you can permanently disable it.

Yeah the amd hd audio is just for my second monitor, it has built in speakers but they arent even hooked up, but the hdmi cable apparently knows it has them. I am currently testing the game with the on board soundcard disabled, will post back results.

Also, if I get no crashes with it disabled, that means i gotta buy a seperate soundcard huh :(

Im at a loss on what this could be. I never got this error last year with my system exactly the same.

Also it causes skype to crash and then my computer goes wonky and glitchy till i restart like always.

I will disable sound in the bios and then test again and see if it crashes without sound.

Seems that HDMI audio is not conflicting with your main sound card. However, there are many other devices that might. First, of course, try disabling Realtek audio. It this resolves the issue, you obviously don't want to lose this card so you need to disable something else that conflicts. System Information in windows provides IRQ number for each component, so take a look what number your realtek card is (usually 5) and then try disabling anything that takes this same IRQ.

The primary suspect is that USB headset (just plug it off before you start a game).

Also, you can try disabling parallel and serial port in BIOS, since these are rarely used these days but still take precious IRQs.

I am 100% sure you will resolve this issue no problem.

Let us know how it goes.

I ran the test with my audio card off from bios and the crash still happened, it didnt actually crash the terraria game because no audio to crash. But skype crashed and the computer went all wonky as usual. Im beginning to think its some kind of hardware failure. But it only happens on a few games, and it mostly happens on my favorite game. Any way to test my hardware without another pc to put stuff into? I dont have access to another pc to test my parts.

I also ran Hot cpu lite for 4.5 hours but ended up with a bluescreen before it could finish. Here is the bluescreen view of the error.

Dump file: 062914-22776-01.dmp

This was from the day before this happened, i also ran memtest86 overnight for over 8 hours, got to pass 4 with no errors.

Ok, here are my suggestions:

1) turn the pc off, pull out the cable
2) reset CMOS via jumper or by removing battery for a minute or two
3) pull out all RAM sticks
4) return only one RAM stick, the other will go in if everything works
5) pull out graphics card and reseat it
6) pull out all SATA and power cables and connect them again
7) clean all fans and heatsinks if not already clean
8) disconnect all USB devices except mouse and keyboard, of course
9) in BIOS, disable parallel and serial ports, onboard LAN, onboard sound, onboard VGA (if any)
10) reboot, stress test again
11) if it fails, try assembling the PC outside of the case and repeat
12) please, please provide the exact configuration data, including PSU. Could be very well that we're missing something here because of that.

I havent had any problems with this computer setup in all the time I have had it, I am nearly sure it is due to hardware failure on my motherboard. But can that cause only certain programs to cause crashes? I know you want my specs, but i fail to see that would help anything because it has been fine for 3 years with no issues anywhere.

Skype is just the indication - computer crashes in games and under stress tests as well. This is definitely a hardware issue, either due to a failing component, hardware conflict or overheating. The fact that everything worked perfectly until now means nothing, because a component will always work until one day... when it finally fails. Since the OP for reason unknown refuses to list his hardware components (was hoping to see his PSU model), I have no choice but to give up here and wish him luck.
