I have a windows 8 acer aspire V5 laptop and after the weekend of not using it i open it to find operating system not found(OSNF). I tired the F2 command to try and boot into safe mode but all i got was nothing and then i still tried it again under the OSNF and they just blinked. I tried hitting F8 and that screen popped up but i have no idea what to do on that screen. can someone please help

FYI i am not ruling out damage to hard drive cause i have a 6 year old who bounces everywhere and has knocked it off the bed more then once

HDD failure is very likely.
Does the HDD show in the BIOS?
Can you create and boot from a Live CD? Linux or Hirens BootCD. This is just to verify the rest of the hardware actually works.

Falling off the bed several times could easily have killed the hard drive, or simply knocked a connection loose.

Assuming you have access to another PC:
Download and burn this to a CD:
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

Boot from it. It is its own OS, and if everything else works, the laptop should boot.
You can then see if the internal hard drive is accessible, etc.

From your description, I'd suspect a broken hard drive or loose connection.

Sometimes, minor shaking/knock off only(I don't know why but that's the way it is) corrupt the data inside the HD. You might be able to boot from a CD/DVD then see if you can choose auto-repair itself(Fix Boot Option). If HD is still working, you can reinstall windows 8 from DVD in worse case. Also, agree with Folks above - go into BIOS and see if your HD is recognized by BIOS.

If you can get into it with Hiren then make sure you run "Produkey" and get your Windows 8 key so you can reinstall if needs be, all they stick on the bottom now is a Logo not the Key.

I have had a bad hard drive before on another laptop but that one saide hard drive corrupted so why wouldnt it say it this time??

There are more ways for a drive to die besides 'corruption'. Broken/loose cable, broken circuit board, etc, etc.

Soooo best bet is to just buy a new harddrive (kinda figured like i said have had to do it before) is there anyway i can get my window 8 back on there with out having to buy a new one or downloading some crappy locked version

The 'best bet' is to find the actual problem. If it is just a broken or loose cable, a new hard drive won't fix it.

Have you set it to search External Windows Directories? If your in Hiren it will just find the license for the version of XP that your booting from in the live CD.
