Putting together a computer with i7-4970K CPU and Asus Z97-Pro MB, 16GB DDR3/1600, SSD drive for boot and Windows 7 x64. Seagate 2TB Hybrid drive for programs to run from and numerous other HD's for storage. My question is...Is the onboard video of the CPU good enough for video encoding and batch processing of pics. Pretty much everything but gaming. I do use MS Flight Sim X once in a while but that's it. I do have a GeForce GTS250 card that I ran SLI in the old computer, I7-960. I'm not looking to buy a video card just yet. Will wait for the 750 TI to drop in price. Would this older card outperform the iGPU on the 4790K.

Take a look at Tom's Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

As you can see, Intel's Integrated HD Graphics 4000 scales WAY down the chart, comparable to cards that we used 9 years ago, so I wouldn't expect much from it in terms of performance.

Your GTS 250 is 10 tiers higher on the Chart than the Integrated HD Graphics 4000, so yes ... absolutely ... use your GTS 250 until you can get a 750 TI.

I also run FSX, as well as X-Plane. As I'm sure you know, FSX is 80% CPU, so the 750 TI will be fine for that.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought I mentioned that it was in regard to the 4600 iGPU. I know there is a big performance increase between the two. This is the first time that I've built a rocket without a graphic card.
