I already have a gigabyte 270x 4GB so money wise its a no brainer, but speaking only performance what its better:
2x270x 4GB or a single 290x 4GB

i think my psu should be able to run both cases but just in case ill ask, it has 53A @ 12V and 650w total, its enough??

thanks in advance

Speaking of only performance, 2x270x Crossfire is better than a single 290x. However, it's not always that simple. Yes, it has more performance but also prone to more issues. Also not all games support crossfire/SLI, and it will get hot, much more than normal. I prefer a single high end GPU for gaming, I think its more reliable and has less issues. If you are doing extremely graphic intensive stuff or plan to run more than one monitor then crossfire would be a good choice.

are you sure about that? looking purely at the specs the 290x has more shaders etc (2816 / 176 / 64) than 2 270x would have combined (1280 / 80 / 32 a piece) and similar clocks...

Well based on this site, http://www.ocaholic.ch/modules/smartsection/item.php?it.... The conclusion they came to was the 290x beat the 270 xfire by about 9% overall. Some tests the 270 xifre won, and vise versa. I'd still say go with a single 290x over 270x xfire though.

As somebody who has 2 of them in crossfire, here are my results: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2329018 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8453865 Sorry about Driver not being valid, I was on 14.4 Catalyst. Now, the 290X can be overclocked much farther if it has good cooling, because it has an unlocked voltage. An R9 270x has 20 Cores, and an R9 290X has 44. The 290 has 40, so it is exactly equal to the 270x if clocked the same, but remember, UNLOCKED voltage. The 270X doesn't (Pisses me off, because my temps are below 60 at full load), but that doesn't stop me from maxing out every game at 1080P at 60 fps+ (yes, that includes Crysis 3).

I'm also one of those dweebs who would rather have a single powerful card instead of a pair of less powerful cards. It's a much easier hardware setup, easier software setup, there isn't any games which don't like single card setups (when a game doesn't like a dual setup it normally reverts to single card and woe behold anyone who has paired underpowered cards), it will fit into a smaller case, it produces less heat, it consumes less energy.

Well surprisingly the gigabyte r9 270x died yesterday.... im running my older asus 6850 DC, the card was still in warranty so depending on what the store offers me i will decide, ive filled the warranty form saying that i dont want that same card repaired/refurbished, and that i would prefer a refund or equivalent discount, but idk if they do such things i suspect tehy will just send me another exact same card, in case they give me the discount i will take the 290x
i know i should not buy the asus 290x dc2 because their cooler its the same as the gtx one and its hotter so that leaves me with two choices: MSI or Gigabyte wihich one should i choose

MSI works great. Great overclockers and cooling.

a;ways go for a single, more powerfl card over two less-powerful cards. It'll save you trouble, hassle, frame dropping and sync, and some games don't even support x-fire/SLI.
