I need a sound card that isn't too expensive, but based on what I have read on them so far, they really increase the sound quality of games/music. It will be for a 2.1 system.

For 2.1 audio the onboard sound driver should be enough, or usb audio.
Asus Xonar may be a good place to start if you need one.
