What is a good real time strategy game like age of empires

My favourite game series on PC is probably age of empires. I have played them too much though and want a new RTS game. I want a game that is like age of empires. so you have to gather resources to build more buildings and upgrade your army.
Which one would you recommend?

Age of mythology? You can even find it on steam nowadays.

Well I've always liked CIV 4 and 5 (if they're considered RTS), and LOTR BFME 2.

Well sort of, you build cities and buildings, and build armies, although you don't need to gather different types of resources to create units like in AoE.

Cossacks: Back To War

The most similar game to AoE that I have come across. They are old (not as old as AoE), but still great, great fun! As long as you build dwellings and have a good fodd income, your army can be insanely big - the only downfall to AoE
