I would recommend windows 8.1. It has everything you need, and if you dont like the concept of metro, use desktop instead. So simple, dont understand why people hate on the os.
I think a great thing is the tiles, just dont use the originals with music and that, make them yourself. It is a great way to keep the desktop free of clutter if you have a lot of programs.

I'm not saying I hate Windows 8, I just think it is a better solution for mobile devices. I have Windows 8.1 on my Asus Transformer and it works like a charm. But for desktop, I would use Windows 7 prior Windows 8 :)

Honorable
Win 7 memory capacity, something else to keep in mind when buying. Most boards support 32Gb, if you want to max it out for some reason in the future Pro is the cheapest way, in most rigs (gaming) 16GB is all you would ever need, heavy video work perhaps not....

Starter: 8GB
Home Basic: 8GB
Home Premium: 16GB
Professional: 192GB

I did not blame you - sorry if you misunderstood :)
It is just that almost everybody copies that one guy that says "oh windows 7 is so good and then windows 8, the retarded cousin came in". I really hate that, and whenever people say windows 7 over 8, i find that most of them just repeat - windows 8 is only mobile devices/touch screen, but it is so much more. Me and my friend who has laptops, use another monitor, and actually benefit from windows 8 in that way. The tiles are a great help for organizing things, and searching for files is easier. Another good thing about 8 is faster boot times.
I find that people are mad at windows 8 for changing minor things, and then adding support for touch.
It is like a car - Windows7 car works and looks ugly, while windows8 car works and looks prettier. But oh no, the windows8 car looks pretty, must be a pile of crap. That sums up all i have heard about win 8 on the web. Most people that havent used windows 8 yet actually hate it too - why? Because its popular to hate windows 8.

Anyways - i did not try to blame you in any way, but more trying to open up eyes for everybody - windows 8 just has more features and did NOT mess up the windows 7 part of it.

Another thing i would like to say - if the windows 9/threshold will be the same tiles, why does so many people like that it is windows 9? The IT teacher on my school says that windows 9 will be 10 times better, and work like windows 7 unlike win8, but what if 8 and 9 are similar? Just sayin', i feel like we have a hate-train going on.

And last but not least - I did not know the thing about the ram - nice to know though, and it gives windows 8 another upside - supporting 32gb from the beginning.

And I agree with you in every aspect.
