Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new GPU within the next month and I was hoping for some advice.
Here is my current rig :

i7 950 @ stock, HD5770 1GB @ stock, 12GB RAM, Corsair 750w PSU, 1680x1050 LCD.

This rig is used for gaming only. Currently playing Watch Dogs, GTA4(GTA5 when its out), bit of Battlefield/CoD shooters and racing sims(Assetto Corsa, rFactor2).

My current LCD will be replaced in 2-3 months so looking to go 1080.
I doubt I'll be looking to overclock or run SLI/XFIRE.

I'm currently thinking either a Radeon R9 280X or a GTX 770.
I don't have any brand preference.
My current preferred store is Scan.co.uk but willing to buy from anywhere in the UK at the right price.
Budget is around £200.

This is on sale at just over £200 currently.

R9 280X GAMING 3G - 3GB MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming 3G Twin Frozr OC 28nm 6000MHz GDDR5, GPU 1000MHz Boost 1050MHz 2048 Streams HDMI/mDP/DVI

This is a little bit more but within my budget.
N770TF 2GD5/OC - 2GB MSI GTX 770 Twin Frozr Gaming, PCIe 3.0 (x16), 7010MHz GDDR5, GPU 1098MHz, Boost 1150MHz, Cores 1536, DPort/DVI/HDMI

One thing I'd like peoples opinion on is GPU RAM. Is 2GB enough these days? Would 3GB be better for the likes of Watch Dogs(and future games)? Or should I really be looking to get a 4GB card?

Thanks for looking

Actually I dont think 770 is better by 20%. They are kind of even.

The price is 10% more for the 770 and that is worth paying only if you value shadow play for recording gameplay.
The 280x offers Mantle, which might become an important factor in the future, or it might not.
The 770 is a bit cooler temperature wise.
Bottom line they are very much equal in performance, you should check the FPS for the games you play, but both of the GPU's are great. If it's still a draw, choose the better looking one :)

Yeah, 1 1080p monitor, not interested in multi monitors(yet).
Not sure on PSU model, I cannot see it in my current case, but, I have a new case that should be delivered tomorrow, will update with this info when I rebuild my rig. All I can tell you know is it is not modular at all and around 3-4 years old.
Cheers

No I don't do any gameplay recording so Shadow Play isn't a factor, like you say though, Mantle could be a factor.
It may just boil down to what deals are out there at time of purchase.

Thanks guys
