I have an HP Envy Sleek book which was working fine until the hinge cracked and i struggled to be able to open and shut it. So i replaced the lid and the front Bessel, when i turned the laptop back on, again it was working fine other than i think i shorted the screen as it was a salmon colour. so instead of removing the battery (yes a stupid thing to do i know) i just drained the battery by keeping it on until the laptop died. i left the laptop as it was (front bessel removed, and old screen attached), until the new screen came. when the screen arrived i replaced it within seconds, went to power the machine on and it comes on for about a second or so then switched off (like something is shorting the circuit). so i left it to charge for a few minutes and tried again, still the same thing. i tryed the old screen, the same thing happens. so i read a few things on the internet about it could be the CPU ect, i have tried to reseat the motherboard and removed any wire attached, the CPU fan switches on and everything seams fine. i have rebuilt the laptop and still the same thing, and i have no warranty so i cannot get any part replaced. can anybody help?

Solution
Hi, what I suggest is to remove the screen and use just the adapter without the battery. Connect an external monitor, start the laptop, and tell me what happens after.

Turns out i hadn't shorted the screen, i had shorted the motherboard. The pink salmon colour i was getting must have been something shorting in the motherboard, probably the GPU failing. i replaced the board now i have a working laptop again, thanks for the help anyway :)
