I have MSI GTX460 768MB OC Cyclone.

I was satisfied with the performance of the card - could play most games 60fps, but I played at 1280x1024 resolution. Now I'm running full HD resolution, and 460 is not quite enough - most games start to lag when there are many particles to render. I am thinking about upgrading to MSI R7 260x 2GB. Would I feel any noticeable difference ?

EDIT: I don't need that the games would run smoothly with everything set high/ultra.

Get the r7 265, cost slightly more than 260x, with 265 you can mix med/high settings at 1080p

Yup, even if you go by floating point performances expect a redoubling of GFLOPS. I guess it would kill 460 in Vantage and Mark11 scores while mark06 scores would be lesser in the gap. Though in all cases 260X shall win. Pixel rate, texture rate, GFLOPS everything is doubled in 260X. Happy gaming. :D  :D

Thanks for the replies. :)

I think I'll buy r7 265. Though I have questions about the dimensions of gpu and the case. The dimensions of the card that I have now are:
20.61 x 11.1 x 3.8 (cm), but the r7 265's are 23.36 x 12.44 x3.81 (cm). In terms of length everything is fine - I have ATX Miditower case, but the problem lies in terms of height - if height is bigger, will the r7 265 fit into the socket of the motherboard and into that place, where a screw holds the GPU and the case together? Because now GTX 460 fits in there perfectly, but R7 265 has more height.
