Is Custom Resolution(through Nvidia Control Panel) safe for a CRT Monitor

So I have an old Compaq Presario 5500 CRT Monitor, it supports maximum 1024x768 60Hz resolution.
So I play Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag on 1024x768 resolution with widescreen, because to play AC4 on fullscreen the requirement is a resolution something above 1024x768.

So I set the custom resolution through Nvidia Control Planel 1280x768 and then set that in my game and the settings worked and the game was running at fullscreen.

So my question is, is running a game on a custom resolution in CRT Monitor safe. And yes, are those resolution pixel really improving my graphics or not, because those aren't supported by my monitor though I experienced a couple of FPS drop.

Note- Every resolution used was of frequency 60Hz.

If you set a resolution higher than your monitor supports (and this applies to both LCD & CRT monitors) you will lose the picture altogether, then you'll be asking how the heck to get it back because simply rebooting won't fix it.

Same will happen if you set an unsupported refresh rate.

If your monitor supports up to 1024 x 768, and that's what you've set it at in NCP, I don't see what you're worried about.

I mean that the method worked and I was able to play AC4 on fullscreen with 1280x768 60Hz resolution, but I just want to know will its long use can damage my monitor.
