Hello!

I have an i7 930 @2.8 Ghz CPU for several years. I didn't have any problems with it and never checked it's temperature before. First time i checked it was few days ago with SpeedFan and those were the readings i got when playing assassin's Creed 4 for a few minutes:

It looked high to me so i went to a computer shop and they said that there is a heating problem and they installed a Hyper N520 cooler master heatsink. I went home and found two problems with it:
1. The fan of the heatsink, running at a fixed ~1800 RPM, is pretty loud (doesn't matter if the computer is idle or at at full load).
2. The CPU heat readings remained pretty much the same, although the core 1,2,3,4 readings declined by 15 - 20 degrees. Here are the readings today when playing AC4 for a few minutes:

By the way, the idle temperature of the CPU before the new heatsink was 55C and after it 54C, and the CPU temperature when browsing the net (not playing games and not idle) is about the same as when playing AC4 in both cases.

My questions are:
1. Is the heatsink doing it's job by declining only the cores 1,2,3,4 temperature and not the CPU temperature?
2. Regardless of the first question i want to replace the heatsink because of it's noise. Can you recommend a silent heatsink that will get the job done?

Thanks in advance!

My Specs:
Intel core i7 930 @ 2.8 GHz.
8GB DDR3
Radeon R9 290 Tri-x
Cougar A760 760W

You could try replacing the fans with quieter ones. Noctua makes some pretty quiet, yet effective fans. If you want to change just the cooler, this one would be good.

Could be design of the actual CPU shell. Those temps are within range, so I would say those are probably alright.

Thanks for the quick answer.
So the more important readings are the cores 1,2,3,4 and not the CPU?
Can someone recommend me of a silent heatsink for i7 930 that will replace the noisy Hyper N520 Cooler Master?

1, 2, 3, and 4 are generally better to follow, yes. I would say an H60 is a good choice.

Thanks for your answers, i was waiting for the computer store to reply before i post my answer here.
The guys at the store tried to convince me that a new Coller won't solve the problem but i am positive that before the computer upgrade the computer was silent and after it there is a constant sound that goes along with the fact that the Hyper N520 runs at a fixed 1800 RPM and considered pretty noisy.
I checked both recommendations of the new coolers (Enermax ETS-T40 and H60) and they both looked indeed like they are significantly quieter Collers than the Hyper N520. The guys at the store told me they can only get the Enermax ETS-T40 and also said that it won't "match" my CPU and Motherboard and that i might have to replace them too. Then i found a review of the Enermax ETS-T40 that was made with the exact CPU and Motherboard i have. The reviewer was quite impressed with it:

So i insisted at the store that they will order it and we will see in a few days if that solves the problem.

Hello again

I got an offer from the store of a Scythe Mine 2 cooler instead of the Enermax ETS-T40 which they don't have.
Is the Scythe Mine 2 quiet compared to my Hyper N520 and will it suffice to cool my CPU?

Thanks in advance!

The Hyper N520 is a little bit quieter.
