can i do an apu+gpu to make it duel graphics and then add another gpu in crossfire providing they are compatable? and has anybody done it and if so was it much of an improvment?

Solution

Well, the integrated chip has 8 cores. The R7 250 has 6 cores. The 250x doesn't work because it has 10 GPU cores. It is the way HSA works. The R7 240 has 5 cores. 1 GPU core has 64 Stream Processors. The integrated chip is more powerful than an R7 250. The only equivalent card is the 7750. The performance of the 8670D in the A10 chips are equivalent exactly to a 7750.

Yes it ca be done. Though Even the AMD Kaveri based 7850K when in crossfire with an r7 250 is not that great for gaming build depending on your budget. I personally like where AMD is going and I am curious to see what software and newer APUs can do. But for 3d gaming r7 250 with an 7850k is as good as it gets for APU/dual graphics..It is not bad but there are better options for cheaper,

Are you saying that you want to Crossfire two GPUs and still use the onboard graphics of the APU? Have not heard of that one! How will Catalyst, after enabling Crossfire, still use the onboard graphics? Why would you want to? LOL

Dual graphics is when you "crossfire" the APU GPU with a dedicated GPU. Crossfire is when you use two or more dedicated GPUs. I think what he is saying is that he wants a "three GPU crossfire" setup with two dedicated GPUs and still use the onboard.

That's a new one for me. LoL Post back here and let us know how it works! :)

If you already have the A10-7850k, that is a great processor that can push most single GPUs on the market. However, there are only two instances to purchase one: 1) It was the processor in a retail PC purchase; 2) You have absolutely no intentions of getting a dedicated GPU.

However, if you already own it, ditch the "dual graphics" and just get a high end card (say the 270x or gtx 760). You will game at full 1080p (higher even) with full 60fps. However, depending on which GPU, you may have to disable Anti-Aliasing (its a FPS killer).

its my first build. yes i was thinking on the A10 and R7 240 or 250,and yes i was wondering if the apu would still offer graphics with more GPU's like quad crossfire.from what i read its seems that the A10 APU is a GPU.but it's not clear in the reading on the AMD site.

The A10 is considered an "accelerated processing unit". It is a CPU with integrated GPU (like the i core series from Intel, but with much better graphics). Once you install a dedicated GPU, the integrated video will be disabled (or you may have to do it manually, depending on your mobo). After that, it is simply a fast quad core chip. Return those r7s if you still can and get something in the r9s. You will thank me later.

I have an A10-5700 that I paired with an r9-270x and I gamed on full 1080p with 60 fps on most titles on Ultra settings no problem (including BF3 and Witcher 2. The AA was turned off in BF3 and Uber sampling disabled on Witcher 2). And your chip is two generations ahead of mine!

Enjoy it! :)

[p.s. don't let Intel fanboys discourage you or talk down on your build by telling you what you should have got instead (an i5), even though they have never even owned an A10 APU] lol

If you are on a super tight budget, and cannot afford both a CPU and good GPU, then get the A10-7850k. It has a full r7-250 integrated. Then, a year or so (maybe a bday or xmas), you can get a high end GPU. Just make sure to get a decent power supply now (at least 750 watt), so you are ready to upgrade GPU!!

You will not be maxing out any games. But if you have never maxed out before, you literally do not know what you are missing. I played SC2 on my A10-5700 with the integrated graphics on medium settings. Once I upgraded to a real GPU, it was literally a totally different game on Ultra settings!!!
