After thinking i had a virus i decided to just fresh install everything so after my fresh install im still suffering from really poor performance, nvidia and games all recommend really high settings but i can barely run them on low e.g arma 3 booted up everything set to ultra and i could barely get it to run on low at 20 fps. My specs are as follows
CPU - Amd fx 6100
Gpu - Nvidia Gxt 660 Ti ( asus)
Motherboard - Asus m5a78l-m/usb3
Hard drive- not sure exactly but it was replaced recently so it shouldn't be a issue
I have monitored cpu temps using overdrive and nothing seems to be out of the norm it keeps rather cool ( never over 40 deg). I hope i can get some advice or even a soloution to the problem as soon as possible

Not really to sure, i put in a new GPU quite some time ago and didn't really see the performance boost that i think i should of ( radeon 7770 to gtx 660 ti) it was ok until i put in a new hard drive my self then it didn't really work properly since ( but hard to tell because i done the HDD and the GPU at the same time)

So I take it to mean your fps in games was fine under the 7770. I would've recommended checking your power supply but it seems as though the two cards have similar requirements so if the 7770 worked then the 660 ti should work also. The only thing I would recommend is cloning your HDD to another one to see if you can Isolate the problem to the GPU and if so, perhaps it's defective (or in rare cases, it may be counterfeit).

Is there another computer you can test the GPU in? The only thing you can do to confirm whether it's working properly is to either use a new HDD in your current system or test the GPU in a different one although I admit I haven't heard of a HDD causing low fps in games so right now I'm inclined to believe the problem is GPU related especially since your system was performing better with the HD 7770 which is objectively slower than a 660 ti.

You could also try updating your bios on your mobo, but i doubt that's the source of the problem.

I can also now confirm that my cpu temps never went above 40 and none of my cores ever peaked 100 only about 80 percent max and not simultaneously ( used amd overdrive)
