Computer won't install ANY OS

Hi,

I have an HP Pavilion P7-1170t. 6B ram, two hard drives of 250GB and 1Tb, Intel Core i3-2120 dual-core processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT520, Pegatron IPISB-CU motherboard.

It shipped with Windows 7. I bought and installed Windows 8, and then upgraded to 8.1. Back when I went to 8, and then 8.1, I recall having the identical issues as described below. After a few weeks of tribulations, I finally got a 8.0 installed, and later, the update installed. What prompted this problem to rear it's ugly head was I was equally unsuccessful installing the April update for 8.1 (KB2919355). After a month of trying everything I could find, I relented to refreshing the PC. I am now back to the original problem - I cannot get ANY OS to install.

I have tried 8.0, 7, and because I had nothing to lose, XP SP2, and none of them will install without an error popping up mid-installation.

I ruled out the media by installing XP SP2 on an older Pavilion, and I just used the 8.0 DVD to reinstall and update windows on my Netbook. I also have a second 8.0 DVD and the results were the same.

I did try installing Ubuntu. It installed without any error. While I would love to leave Ubuntu on, I have Windows applications which I access on a daily basis and they do not fair well in Ubuntu. I understand that Ubuntu uses a different drive format, therefore whatever is causing the problem may hinge on that. However, understanding how is outside of my computer knowledge.

I have tried taking out one strip of RAM at a time and resetting the CMOS by removing the battery from the motherboard for 20 minutes while I ran an errand. Neither of these steps resolved the issue.

I wish I could give you an error, but every time it errors out, the code changes. The last error I received was 0x0800750. Sometimes it even tells me that the hard drive is formatted GPT, AFTER it is 20 - 50% into the installation. Back when this first happened, I replaced the hard drive three times with known good hard drives, so I'm 99.9% certain it's not the hard drive. Conjointly, Ubuntu installed on the hard drive, giving me a boosted assurance I'm not looking at a hard drive failure/corruption issue.

I just ran a S.M.A.R.T. test on the computer and it passed the CPU, Hard Drive, Boot, and Memory. Normally a S.M.A.R.T. test doesn't give a false positive, still, I cannot rule out that possibility at this time.

I am at a loss here. Does anyone have any ideas about how to isolate the issue? Have you seen this issue before and have any tips or suggestions for me?

In advance, thank you very much for your help and time.

Kind regards,
Annette

Hi,

Sounds a nightmare. first thing I would try is only using 1 hdd and then add the others after install or are you trying to load on to a raid set up? I`ve never tried to load 8 or 8.1 as i use win 7 but if you are setting up raid a raid driver needs to be added. I don't know if this will work but have you got another pc? If so take the hdd you want windows on and put it in that then after install put it back in the hp and then load the hp drivers that are needed. also when loading windows and it comes up were you want to install how many portions are you seeing? and are you using windows to format the drive???

Thanks for your suggestion and questions, beefy.

I don't have another computer, so I tried something else. I pulled the drive and used a SATA to USB connection. I attached it to my working Netbook and installed Windows 7 without a hitch. Unfortunately, despite that install working, it couldn't boot the HP I wanted it in. I'm not surprised, since the Netbook and HP have entirely different components, i.e. the wrong drivers preventing a boot.

I did try formatting the drive with the windows installer. It was throwing a system and active partition on the hard drive I'm using each time I deleted both partitions and reformatted: one system, one primary.

However, your question about that made me wonder if maybe it was a faulty format. I booted off my Windows 7 DVD, went into command, and used diskpart to format and activate the drive/partition. I was able to get the installtion to complete this time, but I'm sad to report it will not boot and gives me a brand new error 0xc0000225, "device not found" (Apparently the error believes I should know which device is not found here...) :(

Hi beefy,

Thank you for the research and the links. I wish I could say they fixed things, but they did not. I'm still at the same place I was before.

I had already tried the first link you provided 0xc0000225: Fix for Windows 7, 8) prior to re-posting.

I began the second link (sevenforums; Windows 7: Error 0xc0000225 on boot) after the repair CD - I don't have one and anyone I know with 7 has a 32-bit version, or lives in another state. However, when I got to where I needed the boot directory on C: Please be aware that I have NO OS installed on the drive, which has only the system and primary partitions - created by the Windows installer, not me. These partitions are recreated every time I delete them both and format with the installer, thus I'm going with Windows must have them.

The last link talked about APIC mode. I don't have APIC, but I do have AHCI emulation for the SATA controllers. I switched it to IDE. No dice. Error code is 0x80070570 - this is the error all the installations are settling on regardless of whether I try Windows 7 or Windows 8.

That code is supposed to 'indicate' there are corrupt installation files, according to the message and Google search. But here's the rub. On another computer I downloaded Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool from Microsoft, created an ISO of my Windows 7 DVD, and created a bootable USB flashdrive. That should rule out a DVD read error or a scratched disc.

Seabiscuit, this is wearing my patience out!!! Do you or does anyone else have a magic computer wand I could borrow? Or maybe if I hold the DVD up to the computer and order it to install it will work? (I have to laugh at this or risk scaring my dog and neighbors with a lot of really angry words!)

Hi,

LOL the only other things I can think of are

1. when you start the install and you say you are deleting the partitions and windows puts them back have you tried to delete them and then pressing new instead of next?

2. I think you can get free software that allows you to format your hdd in dos this has worked for me before, but i cant remember what problem i had to have to resort to that.

3. have you tried getting a windows cd of the net? I`m not sure if that's legal but if you going to use a legit activation key i can`t see the problem with it,the only problems i`ve had with windows was being given a win disk from a manufacturer that did not support raid so I made a slipstream disk and then i was given a laptop that would not update so I reloaded windows with the slipstream disk which did not go well so I downloaded 1 from the net and used the key sticker that was on the laptop then all worked fine. Also but i think Microsoft will send u a free disk if it turns out that your disk is an old build incompatible with your pc so it might be a good idea to try their forums. also if i remember right all win7 discs are the same i.e. it`s the code you enter that makes it home, pro or ultimate

5. Contact hp on their forums as they made the pc.

I can`t think of any thing else but this is why i would never by a brand pc like samsung/dell,a friend had a £2000 dell gaming rig and the motherboard chipset went wrong and when dell were asked about a replacement they quoted £250 so he brought an asus 1 for a third of the price but still same spec only to find that it would not fit in the case dell had sold him so he got a new case and it was still £100 cheaper then buying dell.

here`s the link for your hp
