Thinking of buying a dedicated Sound card for my rig. Can you suggest, would I get a noticeable boost in sound quality if I will use either Titanium or Essence for my Sony MDR-XB700 headphones? Will use it 50% gaming 40% music 10% movies

More about : titanium asus xonar essence realtek 1150

Is it reasonable to get an USB amp for headphones in such a case?

I believe so BUT I think I should first point out that I'm near tone-deaf so I am in no way to be considered an audiophile but, I have looked over the specs of the Objective 2 amp and ODAC (Mayflower and JDS Labs make the identical unit - it's open source) and I'm quite impressed with the wave forms that NwAvGuy showed during his development of the unit. I'm assuming here that you are somewhat serious about sound so I would highly suggest looking to the external amplifiers which should provide the best available sound. For a high priced external solution there are tube amps but - rather than go into what I've taken out of my reading and what not I'll give you a few more links to add to your confusion
This I found to be informative and amusing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89pjq1mGstA
and NwAvGuy's own blog about the project http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2012/04/odac-released.html which I found to be quite impressive

Nice, I would believe that to be better than an internal sound card, enjoy.
